Digging Deep

15 February 2010

Following the top-down method, Keltbray is completing the basement dig at The Shard with the ground floor slab already in place and the core rising above; taking excavated materials out through moling holes at a rate of 130 lorry loads per day. Excavated materials will total some 50,000 m3.

At 16 metres in depth, and with works sequenced by project manager Mace to accommodate the early commencement of the concrete core and steel superstructure above, programme is only being achieved by close liaison with fellow specialists Byrne Bros and Severfield Reeve.

Keltbray have also begun work on the adjacent London Bridge House and will be take the 24 storey building down to podium slab level by Autumn 2009.
