Esher 24 July 2012: Keltbray Group, which is the UK’s leading specialist engineering, construction, decommissioning and environmental services business, recently passed its first Ofsted inspection with flying colours by achieving an overall ‘good’ rating. As a provider of professional training and development services for the Group’s nearly 1,000 employees and many more of its external clients, such as Balfour Beatty and Network Rail, Keltbray’s Training & Development Department was assessed for its overall effectiveness, outcome for learners, the quality of provision, leadership and management to ensure competency.
Keltbray first started in-sourcing its training and development function five years ago with the appointment of Training & Development Director, Holly Bennett. Since her appointment, Holly has built up a 14-strong department, which this year is on target to deliver 36,500 hours’ worth of training and assessments.
The department delivers training across Keltbray Group and to many of the company’s key clients. As part of its development plans, the company will be opening a dedicated Midlands Training Facility in Rugby later this year.
Holly explains: “Training and development has become a unique selling point for us and a revenue earner in its own right. As a skills centre, much like adult colleges, we are now subject to Ofsted inspections to ensure competency. “
In the Ofsted report, Michael Hudson commended the department’s untraditional training methods. Holly explains: “We often train people who don’t thrive in a traditional class room environment, and so adjust our training by using practically based methods, such as games and quizzes to engage and encourage participants to arrive at their own conclusions and adapt their behaviour in line with their new learning.”
