Keltbray, which is a UK leader in specialist engineering, construction and decommissioning services, has invested more than £5.5 million in its logistics as part of a strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, improve safety and cost efficiency.
The investment includes the purchase of 32 new Scania tipper vehicles which comply with Euro 5 emission standards, and an exclusive agreement with Reflex for the hire of 196 commercial vehicles, including transit and smaller vans.
The van fleet includes 78 Volkswagon Blue Motion vehicles, which boast a range of innovative energy-saving technologies, from automatic start/stop to low rolling resistance tyres, which will help is reduce fuel consumption, emissions and running costs.
Further good news is that Keltbray’s entire fleet, including tippers and hire vehciles are now also fitted with a CCTV system, which records and stores data and provides the driver with live feeds from different angles, including the front, near side cab and far side cab reverse views onto a split screen which is mounted in the cab.
“While enhancing visibility for drivers, this also improves safety for other road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians. It is also proving to be a valuable driver training tool and key to reducing insurance premiums and preventing unnecessary claims,” explains Keltbray’s Haulage Operations Director, Adrian Scott.
In 2008 Keltbray was one of the first companies to fit side proximity sensor cycle technology systems to the haulage fleet. To further promote cycle and pedestrian safety, Keltbray has also for a number of years supported Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police with their Exchanging Places initiative.
