Esher 2 October 2013: Keltbray, which is a UK leader in specialist engineering, construction and decommissioning services, today announced that the company has been presented with two Considerate Constructors Performance Beyond Compliance Certificates for work carried out at Mitre Square and Lillie Square; both in London.
At Mitre Square, where Keltbray was commissioned by Helical Bar to help prepare the site for an 18-storey, 279,000 square feet office development, Keltbray was awarded the certificate for its demolition of an eight-storey commercial building which was adjacent to other buildings, including a school, within a busy inner-city location.
Considerate Constructors Inspector, Colin Straker, said in his report that this was “undoubtedly the best presented demolition site I have seen in the City.” He went on to say: “The company has ensured that waste leaving the site is controlled by banksmen and is either recycled or reused with less than 10% going to landfill. Efforts are made to monitor noise, dust and vibrations on the site, and also the site’s carbon footprint as part of the environmental good practice.”
Keltbray’s Site Manager at Mitre Square, Joe Allison, said: “We are delighted that our work has been recognised. This is very much thanks to the team, which I am proud to say also has been working to a voluntary noise restriction as agreed with the City of London Corporation, which also meant using radios and mobile phones only in designated areas.”
At Lillie Square, a Keltbray team led by Project Manager, Mick Kelly, has demolished a number of commercial and industrial buildings on a site which is bounded by a railway and close to an exhibition centre to pave way for Lillie Square LP’s mixed-use scheme, which includes new homes and improvements to West Brompton Station.
In his report, Considerate Constructors Scheme Inspector, Peter Allen, said: “The external appearance of this site was excellent. Understanding of environmental issues was strong with targets and performance against targets in place. It was excellent to see that all the company vehicles confirm to the highest FORS standard, and that there is a strong emphasis on training.”
