Keltbray Group, the UK’s leading specialist engineering and construction services company, today reveals its employee response to the extensive COVID-19 smart working measures deployed across its site based and fixed-office locations.

Keltbray’s HSQE and Workforce Engagement teams surveyed employees across the group to ascertain:

  • How measures implemented due to COVID-19 have been received
  • The opportunities to raise ideas, concerns and suggestions
  • The level of wellbeing and support available to the Group’s employees
  • The general feelings of employees working throughout the COVID-19 crisis

674 employees responded to the survey produced by Keltbray’s HSQE and Workforce engagement teams, which consisted of 25 questions:

  • 75-85% of those surveyed believed the mitigation measures and smart working procedures put in place by Keltbray were either effective or very effective

Those who selected ineffective or very ineffective were asked to provide feedback to Keltbray’s HSQE team to record through their internal incident reporting system, to support continuous improvement actions.

Of the 571 employees not working from home, 292 said that they travelled to work by public transport:

  • 67% believed they could maintain social distancing either effectively or very effectively, with less than 10% saying they couldn’t

On projects where Keltbray is not operating as the principal contractor, the results of the survey were shared with partnering organisations, so a collaborative approach could be taken to implement further control measures, ensuring everyone on site goes home safely.

In response to the survey results, Keltbray’s Senior Leadership and COVID-19 Crisis Management teams are conducting a layered approach to the feedback.

Keltbray Chief Executive, Darren James, said: “At Keltbray the safety and wellbeing of our people is our core value. I’m pleased to see how well our employees have engaged with the COVID-19 mitigation and smart working measures the Group has implemented.

The effects of the pandemic continue to change our way of life and significantly impact our industry, so it made sense to gather feedback on how we are handling the situation. This will inform our approach going forward as we continue to implement further control measures, to safeguard our business and our people.”

Sam Taylor, Behavioural Engagement Manager and co-ordinator of Keltbray’s COVID-19 survey, said: “COVID-19 has had a huge effect on how our industry goes about its business. The culture at Keltbray is people focussed, so it made absolute sense to consult with them regarding the mitigation and management of this pandemic whilst at work.

It’s very pleasing to witness the levels of engagement and interaction displayed by our teams who offered a wealth of positive feedback and comments, confirming our ‘new normal’ approach has been successfully introduced and integrated.”
