Keltbray has become one of a small number of contractors in the construction sector to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon for the first time
Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, today announces that it has achieved the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon certification. The announcement comes following recent innovations from the business in its ongoing commitment to carbon reduction across its portfolio.
The Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon recognises businesses and organisations that are taking real action on climate change by reducing their own carbon emissions year on year. The certification confirms that Keltbray has achieved an absolute carbon reduction of 9.7% from its energy related activities and scored 61% on its carbon management performance.
As part of the certification process, Keltbray was required to demonstrate how it is taking measures to reduce carbon across the organisation, primarily through the reduction of gas oil and diesel.
Keltbray’s ambitions also include becoming the first major engineering and construction company to offer customers low carbon concrete in temporary works solutions, as well as pioneering new technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells for power generation and hosting independent trials of alternative fuels to assist the industry to find alternative methods of powering heavy plant.
Kiro Tamer, Group Energy and Carbon Manager, said: “This is an incredible milestone to have reached in our sustainability journey. Keltbray is aligned with the Government Net Zero target to be achieved by 2050, however, we recognise that this may not be enough for all clients and industries we work in. We are therefore committed to supporting our clients with their Net Zero objectives within their own timescales. To do this we are investing in new and innovative technologies to ensure that we reach this goal. Achieving the Carbon Trust Standard certification confirms that we are heading in the right direction and our efforts have been recognised.”
