The inspirational winners of the 2022 Construction News Awards were crowned in front of the industry on 14 July at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, is pleased to announce it has won ‘Best Innovation’ for the HIPER® Pile at the Construction News Awards.

The Construction News Awards, celebrating its 26th year in 2022, brought together more than 1,200 of the UK’s leading clients and contractors for a glittering evening of celebration, recognition and networking.

After face-to-face review by a panel of 80 expert judges, the CN judges said HIPER Pile is, “A comprehensive innovation with great potential and application across multiple alternative uses. Extensively researched and proven concept demonstrating continual innovation and significant whole life value and sustainability impact.”

Michael Pelken, Innovation Director – Research & Development at Keltbray, commented: “We are of course thrilled to have won the Construction News – Best Innovation Award 2022. It has been a tremendous team effort in an Innovate UK grant funded framework, from early conception to the testing of ideas in the lab, to numerical and simulation based evaluations, to site trials and the deployment on the first project. HIPER Pile has been designed to meet and exceed net zero targets, and it demonstrates our commitment to redefine the way sustainable development is delivered.”

Stuart Norman, Managing Director for Piling at Keltbray, commented: “This is justification for all our hard work and this is only the beginning. It’s great to be recognised by our peers and to be acknowledged as leaders in this field.”

Colin Marrs, editor of Construction News, commented: “In a year of new, severe and constantly evolving challenges for the construction industry, the 2022 CN Awards winners are renewed proof of the determination, resilience and inventiveness of those working in the sector. The entries highlight continuing innovation as well as an ongoing appetite for change to meet new demands and worsening economic headwinds.

“This year we were able to return to in-person judging, and the rigorous multi-stage process has identified a wealth of inspired leadership and dedication to high quality delivery. This not only applies to the winners but also to those who were highly commended in their categories. All of the firms and individuals highlighted have good reason to be proud of what they have achieved.”
