Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, today announces it has commenced ground works for the construction of Pathways School in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

Works have officially started on the project which will create the 2700 m2 Pathways School which will cater for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) special needs, with capacity for 90 pupils between the ages of seven to 18 years (year 3 to year 13).

Pathways School is located to the north of a new mixed-use development by Peabody and is located on a brownfield site off the A1306 New Road in Dagenham, replacing a demolished old car dealership, with good adjacent transport links. The site was historically used as the former Ford Dagenham Stamping Plant car works site.

The design proposals for Pathways School have been developed in close association with The Eko Trust and the Department for Education (DfE) technical advisors. It forms part of the DfE’s £3 billion ‘Off-site Schools Framework’ and will be constructed using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), by off-site construction specialist Reds10.

Keltbray has been appointed to deliver the specialist ground works for the project.

The full scope of key remediation services Keltbray will provide include:

  • Site-wide earthworks cut and fill
  • Processing of materials for re-use via screening and crushing
  • Groundwater remediation via CHEMOX injections
  • Maccaferri retaining wall installation
  • Piling
  • External stair and ramp installation

Peter Howland, Managing Director for Remediation at Keltbray, said, “We’re excited to have started works for the construction of the Pathways School, which will be a space for children to thrive and flourish. Keltbray has a long-standing history of supporting the communities in which we work, which is why we’re thrilled to be working on such an important scheme which will provide such benefits for the local area and beyond.”

Keltbray is currently on site and is due to complete towards the end of 2022.
