Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, today announces it has become one of the first organisations to be certified against BSI’s new standard. ISO 45003 is the first global standard giving practical guidance on managing psychological health in the workplace. It provides guidance on the management of psychosocial risk, as part of an occupational health and safety management system.

The ISO 45003 includes information on how to recognise the psychosocial hazards that can affect workers, such as those that arise from poor planning, and environmental factors such as weather, for example.

Receiving the ISO 45003 reflects Keltbray’s ongoing commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of its people.

The new standard – ISO 45003: 2021 Occupational health and safety management – psychological health and safety at work – Guidelines for managing psychosocial risks, was published in June 2021 and gives guidance for managing psychosocial risks and provides recommendations to organisations on how to prevent work-related psychological ill health.

To achieve this certification, a rigorous and independent assessment is carried out by BSI to ensure that the scheme has been successfully implemented.

Keltbray is using the requirements of the standard to set its minimum standards, which will enable them to measure their improvement and the success of their programs over time.

Sam Taylor, HS&W Strategic Projects Lead at Keltbray, commented: “We’re delighted to have been certified against this highly relevant psychological health and safety scheme. Receiving the ISO 45003 accreditation is testament to the hard work we’ve put into implementing our health, safety and wellbeing strategy and the positive reception it’s received from our people. Our goal is to create a culture where our people thrive, and we’re proud that our strategy has been tested against international standards, demonstrating our commitment to the long-term wellbeing of our workforce.”

Mark Newns, H&WB Manager at Keltbray, added: “This is recognition of our achievements and the journey we have taken which started in 2013, bringing the importance of health and wellbeing in line with safety, culminating in our 2022 PH2 strategy creating equivalence and making tangible improvements to our organisation.”
