which is a UK leader in specialist engineering, construction, demolition, decommissioning, remediation and environmental services, has won this year’s covetedTipper Haulier of the Year Award for its fleet of 36 tippers, after proving sustainable ‘growth, social awareness and a continuous willingness to drive change and innovation’, according to the judges.
The award was presented as part of the Tip-Ex 2014 event and presented to Keltbray on the back of the company’s demonstration of ‘passion, innovation, commitment and responsibility to promoting best practice in the sector’.
Not only has Keltbray’s tipper fleet size risen by 30% since last year, but Keltbray has also moved from Euro 4 to Euro 5 standard vehicles. This has reduced nitrogen oxides by 40% and improved the number of miles driven per gallon by 4% compared to industry standards, according to London’s Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme, where Keltbray is one of only 22 companies to achieve Gold Status for its continuous improvements and environmental savings. Better still, in the past year, each of Keltbray’s new tippers has emitted 10% less CO2 compared to the old standard vehicles; saving more than 328 tonnes of CO2 (32%) in the process.
Keltbray has a strong record of supporting road safety initiatives. In 2008, the company was one of the first to fit side proximity sensor technology systems to the haulage fleet, and today there are a number of features to improve safety.
To promote safer cycling, Keltbray was also one of the first companies to support Exchanging Places; an initiative run by Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police, which involves cyclists sitting in the cab of Keltbray’s tippers to better understand the driver’s view of the road. Since 2010, Keltbray has supported more than 60 of these events, educating more than 700 cyclists.
Transport Manager for Keltbray, Terry Good, said: “We have invested significantly in our tipper fleet and training to ensure we keep driving improvements both in terms of safety, customer service and environmental performance. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised and see this prestigious award win as evidence of this. At Keltbray we strive to be the best in our sector and at everything we do. We therefore see this as an incentive for us to continue this progressive drive, and ensure we keep at the forefront of industry developments.”
