Starting at Keltbray

I joined Keltbray, in November 2018 as a HR Administrator, stepping into the profession for the first time. From the beginning, I made a conscious effort to learn as much as I could, taking every opportunity to understand the different areas of HR.

As I progressed through roles as Coordinator and Advisor, I gained exposure to a wide range of projects. Today, I’m proud to be an HR Manager, supporting colleagues across the business and contributing to key initiatives that strengthen our people practices.

Progressing and navigating challenges

One of the most important things I did early on was actively seek out opportunities to learn. I shadowed colleagues, got involved in multiple areas, and made the most of the available learning and development support.

Keltbray has played a significant role in my progression. Completing my CIPD Level 7 was fundamental to moving into a more senior role, and the ILM Level 5 in Leadership & Management has helped me develop further as a team leader.

The fast‑paced nature of the business has been one of the biggest challenges. Plans can change quickly, and I’ve learned to embrace that unpredictability by staying adaptable, organised and solutions‑focused. Building strong relationships across the business has also made a real difference, helping me respond effectively and prioritise what matters most.

Making a positive impact

What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, both by improving employees’ experiences and on the wider business. One achievement I’m particularly proud of is enhancing our onboarding process. It’s rewarding to see how this work has improved the employee experience for new starters, their line managers and the business.

For me, career progression means continuous learning, gaining new experiences and developing skills over time. My advice to anyone looking to grow in their role is to be proactive and take ownership of your development. Get involved in new projects, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek feedback, as everyone is willing to help.
