Battersea Power Station
Scroll to explore
Skip galleryKeltbray delivered some of the most technically challenging deconstruction works undertaken during the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, one of the UK's most recognisable industrial landmarks. The project formed part of the wider £9 billion redevelopment programme that transformed the former power station into a mixed-use destination comprising residential, commercial, hospitality and retail uses.
A key element of Keltbray's scope was the safe deconstruction of the approximately 1,000-tonne roof structures spanning Turbine Halls A and B. Because the building is Grade II* listed, deconstruction activities had to preserve the historic fabric while enabling redevelopment works to proceed.
Keltbray designed and installed specialist temporary steel platforms that travelled along the original gantry crane rails within the turbine halls. This bespoke methodology enabled the team to safely demolish the vast roof structures while controlling risk to the retained building and surrounding workforce.
Alongside the structural works, Keltbray Environmental Solutions delivered extensive asbestos management and removal activities over a period exceeding three years. The project required strict environmental controls and specialist safety procedures due to the age and complexity of the structure.
The project is widely regarded as a flagship example of Keltbray's ability to combine demolition engineering, environmental remediation and heritage preservation on a nationally significant regeneration scheme.
