Keltbray was appointed by Lendlease, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, to deliver the piling works for the HMP Glen Parva redevelopment in Leicester. The project involved multiple accommodation blocks and ancillary buildings across a large, sloping site with variable ground conditions.

The piling package comprised 287No 450mm diameter Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) bearing piles, installed across several structures, including Houseblock A, which featured an irregular footprint requiring careful pile layout and load distribution.

Ground investigations identified gypsum‑bearing and potentially pyritic mudstone at depth. To achieve the required 100‑year design life, piles were designed to terminate within the Glen Parva, Oadby and Thrussington Members, avoiding deeper Mercia Mudstone and Westbury Formations.

The site’s proximity to a live railway line, combined with wet winter conditions, required robust access and logistics planning. Temporary 6F2 haul roads were installed to maintain safe working conditions and programme continuity. Strict quality controls were implemented to meet the project’s stringent concrete specification.
