Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, today announces it has secured the contract to deliver remediation works on Berkeley Group’s Oval Village Scheme.

Works will include site wide remediation and refurbishment of the iconic Gasholder No 1.

Oval Village is next to the famous Oval International Cricket Ground, one of the only 2 Cricket Grounds in Central London and home to the Surrey County Cricket Club.

The development is a former gasworks site, with one of the gasworks structures awarded heritage-II listed status which will be blended in the architecture within the masterplan.

The full scope of key remediation services Keltbray will provide include:

  • Bulk excavation, obstruction removal (incl. gasholder wall demolition) and filling
  • Material processing and re-use, to form development platform/s
  • Offsite disposal of surplus / unsuitable material
  • Sheet piling including soil loosening and UXO mitigation
  • Capping beam construction
  • Gasholder No.1 refurbishment (capping beam and columns)
  • Verification and reporting

Keltbray will also be in charge of providing extensive environmental monitoring to ensure that any odour, dust, or noise emissions are monitored and appropriately controlled.

Peter Howland, Managing Director for Remediation at Keltbray, said, “Keltbray is pleased to have won this package of works on this innovative regeneration scheme to support the transformation of Oval into an exciting village-like destination in the heart of Central London. The delivery of new homes embedded within stylish, integrated lifestyle-based facilities will not only have significant social and economic benefits for the local community, but also the country as a whole as we work to build back better and support the UK Government’s goal to address the UK’s chronic housing shortage.”

Keltbray is currently on site and is due to complete towards the end of 2022.
