KELTBRAY WINS WORLD DEMOLITION AWARD FOR COLLABORATION
Esher 9 November 2015: Keltbray has won the Collaboration in Demolition Award at the 2015 World Demolition Awards.
Esher 9 November 2015: Keltbray has won the Collaboration in Demolition Award at the 2015 World Demolition Awards. The company won the collaboration award for its demolition of Bridge 19 at Earls Court, due to the successful and close partnership working approach adopted for this complex engineering project, which was undertaken in a highly constrained and sensitive residential and rail environment within a compressed timeframe on Christmas day in London.
Keltbray won the award on behalf of the multiple stakeholders involved in the project, including Keltbray’s client, Capco, specialist contractor Abnormal Load Engineering (ALE), Network Rail, Earls Court and Olympia, and the Environmental Health Officers for Kensington and Chelsea Borough and Hammersmith & Fulham Councils; who all shared the belief that collaboration was essential to the success of the project.
The removal of bridge 19, which was a 1,000 tonne structure built over the West London Line train line to provide access for HGVs and pedestrians, linking the Earls Court 1 and 2 buildings, was an enabling project required ahead of the main demolition of the Earls Court Exhibition Centres. Due to the bridge’s size, an 84-hour rail possession was required for its removal.
“The timescales required to develop, refine and agree control measures for these works were extremely challenging and required a great deal of effort from Network Rail and Keltbray. This also required a cooperative approach to support each other for the benefit of the project. The bridge structure was successfully removed with no incidents and the railway was reopened into operation without any delays. The success of this project is not only a testament to the skills and efforts employed by all of those involved, but also a good example of openness and cooperation. Throughout this project, we found Keltbray’s team to be extremely professional and cooperative, always willing to consider Network Rail’s requirement, and always proposing constructive solutions to the many challenges encountered,” explained Asset Protection Manager for London South East Asset Protection at Network Rail, Logan Subramaniam.
Managing Director of Keltbray Group, John Price, is delighted with the win: “At Keltbray we take great pride in establishing, building and maintaining close relationships with all members of a project team to encourage positive partnership working. This project is a showcase for how our collaborative approach is key to the successful outcome of the challenging projects we get involved with, and this award was well deserved by all the different parties involved.”
Organised by Demolition & Recycling International (D&Ri), this is the 6th time these awards are held; this year hosted in front of an audience of 270 demolition and recycling professionals from 22 countries at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky hotel in Amsterdam.
