Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, today announces it has secured two accolades at the Green Apple Awards for its Fuel Saving Tournament and the use of Earth Friendly Concrete™ at its Canada Water project.
Keltbray will be presented with two awards in the International Green Apple Environment Award 2021 category, at the Houses of Parliament Green Apple Awards presentation ceremony on November 15.
Back in 2019, Keltbray launched a fuel saving tournament within its haulage department where the driver with the biggest efficiency gain was awarded a prize. The results exceeded expectations, with the business saving £65k of fuel, and also gaining the longest period of zero caused accidents. Off the back of this, in March Keltbray launched the first fuel saving tournament at its UCL Institute of Neurology Project at Kings Cross. This involved 5 excavators varying from 13T to 50T, which idled on average for 30% of the time.
In the first month of this exercise the business saw a reduction in idling of almost 50% across the 5 machines, and the driver with the biggest improvement reduced the machines idling by 62%.
Earlier this year, Keltbray announced it had saved 240 tons of carbon by installing permanent works piles using Earth Friendly Concrete™ at its Canada Water project on behalf of client, British Land.
Kiro Tamer, Head of Environmental Sustainability at Keltbray commented: “We are delighted to have won these prestigious Green Apple Awards, which demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development, and supporting our clients to achieve their Net-Zero targets. The last year has been fantastic for Keltbray’s environmental achievements, and we hope these projects serve as an example of best practice to the wider industry.”
