The first construction milestone for Keltbray International: Toronto, Canada
Since joining the Canadian market in March 2018, Keltbray completed its first major milestone on the Eglington LRT project which is part of the Smith & Long and Keltbray joint venture, also known as (SLK JV) for the client Crosslinx. The project is an 11km (Light Rail Transit) LRT system.
6km of which is underground. The contract awarded to the SLK JV was the FLOC package. Fibre, lighting, OCS and MV cabling valued at $30m.
Paul Worsley, Head of Overhead Line Electrification and Operations Director for Keltbray International Ltd, talks about the Canadian milestone for Keltbray, “The Keltbray International Overhead Line Electrification (OLE) team successfully completed the first key KPI (2C Rail, OCS & Medium Voltage Installed Mount Dennis to Caledonia, FLOC) for the Eglinton LRT project. The Keltbray International Eglinton team started construction on the 1st April 2019 and to date over achieved all project dates against the construction plan. I can proudly report the OLE team have had zero accidents and incidents since work started totalling 23,334hrs.
Total Site Hours worked = 180009
Total Office Hours worked = 5325
“Works included undertaking all the drilling, resin and anchor bolts for the tunnel supports, pull testing, installation of SPS, rigid rail, wiring and installing jet fans.
“The project landmark was to have all the OLE installed by 30th October from Mount Dennis Station at grade station, to Caledonia underground station an area totalling 2250mtrs for the East and West tunnel. This milestone leads into the next KPI to be mechanically and electrically fit to enable a tram to travel under live OLE before 19th December. The tendered plan was to undertake the works off RRV’s but due to access and ongoing tunnelling works, the OLE construction has been undertaken from mobile scaffold. This was a challenge for the OCS team which they embraced, accepted and attacked with the typical Keltbray can do attitude”.
