Ferrybridge Power Station
Scroll to explore
Skip galleryKeltbray delivered the decommissioning and controlled demolition of Ferrybridge Power Station, acting as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer across one of the UK's most significant industrial decommissioning projects. The works formed a critical stage in preparing the former power generation facility for its future use while managing a complex range of operational, environmental and stakeholder challenges.
The project involved the safe decommissioning and demolition of major power station assets, including the main boiler house structures, eight reinforced concrete cooling towers and two 198 metre tall chimneys. Extensive asbestos removal works and the demolition of ancillary infrastructure were also completed as part of the programme.
Situated within a highly constrained environment, the site was located in close proximity to a live National Grid substation, overhead high voltage power lines, adjacent energy facilities, major transport routes and neighbouring communities. Careful planning, rigorous safety management and continuous environmental monitoring were essential throughout delivery. Demonstrating Keltbray's ability to safely manage large-scale industrial decommissioning works while maintaining environmental performance and programme certainty.
