2 Aldermanbury Square transforms an ageing commercial tower into London’s showcase for circular‑economy construction.

Keltbray was contracted to deliver the soft strip, structural demolition, enabling works, and RC sub‑ and superstructures for the project. The existing building was a 10‑storey steel‑framed concrete structure with two below‑ground levels, primarily used for office accommodation. A communal basement shared with the neighbouring building required careful management throughout.

Wentworth provided construction engineering and temporary works design from pre‑demolition through to basement completion, developing methodologies that enabled us to safely deconstruct, reuse existing materials, and construct the new basement while protecting sensitive neighbouring assets.

A major element of the project is the drive for sustainability and carbon reduction, and to date it has been recognised with two City of London Considerate Contractors Scheme Gold Awards.

Project outcomes

  • Circular econonmy

Circular‑economy delivery drove the project forward, with Keltbray safely deconstructing the existing tower, removing complex foundations and enabling the reuse of 1,800 tonnes of salvaged steel through strategic demolition methodologies.

  • Precision engeneering

Programme certainty through precision engineering was achieved by managing sensitive interfaces while constructing a new basement box and 13‑storey reinforced‑concrete core in a constrained City of London environment.
