Slough Power Station
Scroll to explore
Skip galleryKeltbray was appointed as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor to deliver the decommissioning and demolition of the redundant Slough Power Station.
A multi-fuel combined heat and power plant located within the operational Slough Trading Estate. The works included the removal of major power generation assets, including the boiler house, bunker bay, turbine hall, fuel store warehouse, tanks, transformers and a 98-metre reinforced concrete chimney, together with associated foundations and extensive asbestos remediation.
Delivered within Europe's largest trading estate, the project required careful management of a live operational environment, surrounding businesses and critical infrastructure. Keltbray worked alongside multiple stakeholders while managing interfaces with live heat and power generation assets, buried high-voltage services and ongoing decommissioning activities, supported by rigorous environmental controls to minimise noise, dust and vibration impacts.
Using detailed 3D modelling, structural analysis and specialist demolition methodologies, Keltbray safely dismantled the complex structures through a combination of heavy crane lifts, top-down demolition techniques, controlled structural collapse and specialist chimney deconstruction. Civil engineering works, including the installation of underground ducts for HV cable diversions, helped prepare the site for future redevelopment while demonstrating Keltbray's expertise in delivering complex industrial decommissioning programmes safely and efficiently.
Before decommissioning, Slough Power Station operated as a multi-fuel combined heat and power facility serving businesses across Slough Trading Estate; afterwards, the redundant infrastructure was safely removed, the site prepared for redevelopment and critical utility diversions completed to support future use of the area.
